The original Zigany the Gypsy by Ferenz Nagy was written for solo violin as a Hungarian folk tune, arranged by Scott R. Meister for 'mallet instrument' with piano accompaniment. It begins with a lamentation, and moves on to a Czardas-like dance.
The solo part fits on either xylophone or marimba, but the marimba has a quality of sound more appropriate for this music.
