Tapas by Elyzabeth Meade has a very unique instrumentation. It has 6 percussion players with a solo voice feature.
The word Tapas is Sanskrit for "fervor, heat, fire and energy." It's attained by completely devoting one's thoughts towards a goal.
This inspired the composter to create a multi-part composition, each section having a "goal" that's achieved by different musical means. There's tons of textural, lyrical and harmonic qualities to this piece.
Fun fact: Everyone (not just the soloist voice) gets to use their voices through out!
