The Meinl Berimbau is traditional African instrument that is a commonly found in the music from Brazil and other South American countries, particularly as an accompaniment to the martial art Capoeira. The thin striker and a caxixi are held in the right hand, while the left hand supports the bow and modulates the string with a small metal disc. The whole instrument is moved on and off the abdomen, opening and closing the resonant gourd, for a captivating 'wah-wah' effect.
