The 4-Piece MOD configuration is the modern take on the "Standard" drum configurations of yesteryear. Typical Standard setups had a 12/13/16 tom spread. Nowadays drummers are wanting a slightly wider spread when it comes to their toms to have a little more contrast in pitch from drum to drum. A 12" tom next to a 13" tom doesn't offer the best tuning range. In fact more times than not drummers with a 12" and 13" in their setup end up ditching one or the other at some point in time. This configuration also has an 18" deep bass drum for more modern kick drum tuning as well.

Still made right here in the USA, Ludwig can get these kits turned out in 4 weeks, and sometimes even sooner depending on the finish you're wanting. Quite an awesome feat for a drum set of this quality.
Classic Maple shells feature a center 3-ply core panel, laminated in a horizontal/vertical/horizontal grain orientation, sandwiched between 2-ply inner and outer panels. This, combined with the Radio Frequency Shell Technology (RFST) molding process, creates strong and resonant instruments.
