The Pearl 11.75" Havana Series Fiberglass Conga features a vintage-style Cuban 'fat-belly' shell, increasing the amount of air space inside to increase the amount of punch and depth that the drum can create. Most congas are 42" around or less at their widest point, but this drum measures 50"!
The fiberglass shell is much lighter than a traditional wooden shell (congas can be really heavy), and it's far less affected by humidity and the elements. If you do a lot of playing outdoors, you might seriously consider a synthetic shell.
Contour Crown rims keep the drums tuned high and keep your hands from being a swollen, achy mess by the end of the night. Pearl's Self-Aligning Washer System makes tuning a breeze, and the rubber guard on the bottom protects the shell from hard surfaces.
A high-end natural cow skin head completes the instrument, giving you a warm traditional conga tone. This drum features a rich, gilded design with a Red Tiger Stripe finish, complemented with gold-colored hardware.
