Tapspace Fear Cage by Kirk J. Gay

Fear Cage by Kirk J. Gay is a unique work for two percussionists in an enclosed in a circle of timpani. This piece is based off of the term used by paranormal researchers to describe a confined space with a high electromagnetic field readings and is meant to create the same levels of uneasiness and paranoia that one who is sensitive to this electromagnetics felt in such a space.

Gay uses a blend of bowed metallic accessories and timpani to create a dark and ominous tone and the players are constantly moving around the circle and around each other to create this deep soundscape. This is a one-of-a-kind work that is a strong addition to any concert or recital.

  • Brass Rice Bowl/Prayer Bowl
  • Bamboo Wind Chimes
