Tapspace Pulse Theorem by Benjamin Finley

Pulse Theorem by Benjamin Finley is a multipercussion duet inspired by Native American pow-wows and their drumming rituals, which utilize drums tuned to the same pitch but played with lots of rhythmic counterpoint.

Both players have an identical setup, facing each other, and most of the piece focuses on the interaction between two distinct rhythmic passages being played at the same time. It's often hypnotic, and can be quite disorienting to the audience. Luckily, a recognizable 3/4 bar shows up regularly to save everybody!

Both players will need advanced grasps of time signatures and rhythmic overlap/syncopation.

Instrumentation:

  • Two Wood Blocks, Two Rototom Frames
  • Two Pairs of Bongos, Two Pairs of Congas
  • Two Kick Drums

Difficulty: Advanced

Duration: 6:00

This duet includes a score and a CD with both parts and an MP3 recording.
