Strata by Sean Patrick Harvey is a collection of snare drum duets that highlight textures found in composite rhythms, canon, and interwoven layers.
Every measure in the first piece One Big Hocket features split rhythms between the two players.
2. Particle Emission is written in canon, with the second player playing the first player's music at a later time.
3. Changing Phases is the most traditional duet, written with rhythmic ideas that are offset to create complex accented layers.
Each of these pieces can be played alone, or you can combine them into a suite!
