Tapspace Scherzo (A Midsummer Nights Dream) by Mendelssohn/Slawson

Once upon a time, Felix Mendelssohn was asked by King Frederick of Prussia to write the incidental music for William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream while he was working in Berlin. Now, a couple hundred years later, Brian Slawson has reworked this composition for more contemporary instrumentation.

This ensemble features a 12-member mallet ensemble to play the 'Scherzo' movement, impressively capturing the antics and jokes of the magical world of fairies that this movement depicts.

Best performed by upper intermediate or advanced players, this composition features tons of notes in compound meter as well as quick playing at a soft dynamic, which requires a great deal of control and precision. This is a light piece that is perfect for adding to any percussion ensemble concert and is sure to be enjoyed by all types of audiences.
