Tesserae by Mason Lynass is a percussion ensemble written for 3-4 players, written with a laid-back, groove-heavy feel. It takes inspiration from minimalism in the way the piece evolves, and a lot of its rhythms also draw influence from drum and bass grooves.
The piece changes how it's felt depending on how many players there are - if there are 3 players, it's designed to be felt in 12/8 time, and if there are 4 players, it can be felt in 3/4 instead.
