Magnolia by Jason Baker is a three movement suite for solo snare drum. Although this suite is intended to be performed on a concert snare drum and featured in a more concert style venue, like a recital or jury, the work is heavily rudimental and even sounds rather militaristic.
Required for this piece is impeccable rhythmic precision through constantly changing and complex time signatures as well as dynamics at the most extreme ends of the sonic spectrum. By combining the rigidity of rudimental drumming with the flexibility of concert playing, this suite is perfect for any well-rounded drummer.
